We, as part of the Christian Family, have worshipped here for over one hundred and sixty years.
A little bit of history...
The foundation stone was laid on the 30th March 1836 and the church was consecrated by the Rt. Rev James Wallker DD bishop of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Fife on the 19th April 1837. The fine stained glass windows above the alter are dedicated to the memory of the Rt. Rev Charles McKenzie, the first Bishop of Central Africa. The organ is one of the smallest three manual instruments ever built. It was installed in 1909 by Harrison and Harrison, organ builders of Durham and London. The Vestry was enlarged in 1932 and renovated in 2001.
Today's Church
As a Christian community who express their faith, worship and practice within the Episcopal tradition we are committed to work for the glory of God and the creation of a better world.
We live, share and proclaim the good news of the Gospel, the liberation we have found in Christ our Saviour.
We attempt to do this by promoting the ideas and values of the Gospels. Values such as respect for all people, promotion of human rights, the desire for freedom, justice and true fellowship, and the affirmation of the dignity of all.
We are commited to the ecumenical cause working in partnership with the other churches in Peebles. We are active members of the Peebles Council of Churches, which exists to promote united work and witness.
We are a seven days a week church! Our aim is to provide for the spiritual needs of each member and for our community. We provide support and care for each other in practical ways. We try to follow the example of the love and care that Jesus showed, encouraging each person to reflect this in our community.
Our church is open every day and many people visit the church to pray, to be quiet, to meditate or to reflect. There is a prayer "posting" book in the church. There you can write your prayer and/or prayer request. We will remember that prayer and request particularly at our Thursday morning service.
We hope to nurture and help you in your spiritual journey with God. If you would like to know more, please contact us.
